Understanding Gender Equality

Gender equality can be viewed as a confounded subject for some, which makes it hard to decern it’s actual significance. This is on the grounds that various individuals have various sentiments.

In our general public today, Gender Equality is for the most part comprehended as concerning only the females; for a few, it is comprehended as being synonymous to woman’s rights

First, let’s understand the meaning of equality. Equality simply means ‘equal’. That is, having the same value.

Gender Equality can be described as the state of having equal access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision making; and the state of valuing different behaviors, rewards, resources, opportunities, aspirations and needs equally, regardless of gender. Gender equity is the process of being fair to women and men.

This doesn’t mean women and men have to be identical, but their rights, responsibilities and opportunities will not depend on their gender.

The concept of Gender Equality doesn’t just come with equal rights, but also with equal responsibilities, pressure, humiliation, actually it means to get equal of everything.

We live in a society where if someone does something against men, it feels okay or less offensive but it is not acceptable if women are victims in similar circumstances.

If it is not acceptable for a woman, then it shouldn’t be acceptable for a man.

All genders are human beings, and we all feel the pain and humiliation in the same way. We all can be sensitive; so why single out a gender?

One cannot demand equality and then ask for some concessions just because of their gender. If it is so, then it is not equality but some form of discrimination.

Gender Equality means being treated equally regardless of gender, without preferential or differential treatment.

This is seeing all genders as being of equal status.
